In my Media Foundations course students were allowed to select from a menu of topics to write an opinion essay that is worthy of publication in a trade journal.
I chose to answer the following prompt: Are we targeting too much? Some argue that all marketing should be addressable down to the individual level while others believe that addressable targeting to individuals at scale will ultimately destroy brands and destroy business. What is the solution?
It was an exciting opportunity to express my own point-of-view on a topic of interest using an argument that was informed by course concepts and specific curriculum materials were applied.
My argument demonstrated a strong understanding of the issues. It was well-positioned, conveyed clearly, and held credibility and basis in evidence. I received full marks for my assignment.
